About

The world of ostomy can be a confusing one at times; not a lot of people know all there is to know about ostomy, and for a pretty good reason. Personally, I think that ostomies are one of the grossest things about human existence. In fact, it is with a deep sadness that I admit to having a lot of knowledge about ostomy and sometimes wish I could forget everything that I know about it. However, this is basically impossible to do because I just happen to know so very much about ostomies, stoma, and various products and supplies that go along with these things. One thing that I would like to point out is that there are a lot of products for your stoma that you may not be using. Here’s the thing - if you have the unfortunate circumstance of living with a stoma for the rest of your life, you might as well do everything you can to try to make your quality of life better. After all, you are going to have to be wearing an ostomy pouch at all times until the day you do, and that is a really depressing thought. So I have decided to write this article and come up with a short list of ostomy products and accessories that you should be using if you do not already.

The first product that I want to talk about is called a stoma plug. Now, a stoma plug is very different from an ostomy pouch, which most people know as what you must wear if you have an ostomy in order to collect the output that comes out of your stoma. Instead of wearing an ostomy pouch, however, sometimes it can be beneficial to wear a thing called a stoma plug. If you are not sure what a stoma plug is, then I have good news for you - I am about to tell you about it right now.

A stoma plug is a simple cap that you can put on the skin barrier over your stoma, similar to how you might attach a normal ostomy pouch. The benefit of wearing a stoma plug is that you can do certain things without having to wear an ostomy pouch. Some people wear a stoma plug during things like showering, bathing, swimming, performing sexual activities, and other various events like that. Keep in mind, though, that a stoma plug is only supposed to be worn for a short duration of time. It is not suggested that you wear a stoma plug for more than 30 minutes. The ostomy pouch is still necessary in order to let the output drain from your stoma, and a stoma plug can be harmful to your stoma if you wear it for too long.

Another product that you should know about is extremely helpful in keeping your ostomy pouch from smelling really bad all the time.
